NYLON X Rebecca Minkoff

NYLON sent me on a mission last Friday to snag some footage of the Rebecca Minkoff Fall 2014 runway show at Lincoln Center. Watch it in all of its 2-second glory here (at :50 secs):

Rebecca Minkoff Fall 2014 NYFW

( Chic as shit at Rebecca Minkoff.)

On and off the runway today, there where mouth-watering outfits everywhere the eye could see. I had the privilege of shooting footage at the Rebecca Minkoff Fall 2014 show for NYLON TV. There was a live ensemble playing during the event as well as strong walks on the runway. The styles showcased at this event were bold yet wearable. From my nosebleed standing position, I almost fell over when I spotted Leandra Medine sitting front row -- man blazer and all. I even blew that fashion goddess a kiss!

Jay Godfrey NYFW Fall 2014

(Urban Outfitters top & faux fur coat, H&M leather jacket, Zara skirt, Madewell bag, JC Play Shoes.)

 (Awkward legs. Laugh at me.)
(My photographer Grant and I acting mod.)
(Getting artsy on the train ride back to class.)

I cannot begin to articulate the type of vibes at the Jay Godfrey Fall 2014 show at the Hudson Hotel. Despite the cold weather, attendees dressed to the nines went to lay eyes on the edgy yet refined clothing of Godfrey. With smokey eyes and long black mani's to match, the models showcased garments in a room filled with intense  rock music and sequins. From this show, it is evident that black leather is always in and will be for decades.

Like The Devil Wears Prada, Without the Devil.

(Taken moments after being hired…I had to;))

Like any other artistically inclined, fashionable young adult, I devour the pages of Nylon Magazine. Coming to school in New York City, I was well aware that the headquarters for this fabulous lifestyle mag were nestled on a tiny cobble stone street in Soho. After coming across an opening for an internship with this glorious company, I had to pounce. Little did I know that I would be writing this post today as a new Nylon TV Intern! I know, my mouth fell to the ground similar to the way yours just did! (Especially when the words New York Fashion Week and the Closet were mentioned during my interview!) Now that I have landed this dream internship, I know my life will change, even if ever so slightly. Due to this exciting and incredible time in my life, I decided to document all of the out-of-this-world stuff I will get to do so I can share it with someone, or maybe many someones, that will appreciate the experience I am about to embark on. Keep your fingers crossed for me please, and check back in often so maybe you can learn from my experience and also do this one day too. Let the neon and cheetah print begin!
Yours truly taking a mega chic, shitty-college-mirror selfie while brushing my teeth before my coveted Nylon Mag interview.

Youtube Music Awards 2013

Here is a link to an article written about my experience as an extra at the 2013 YMVA! A few highlights included seeing Arcade Fire and M.I.A live. As well as meeting one of my favorite directors Spike Jonze.

Coney Island

Saturday felt like a hazy, washed up dream from summers past. I went to Coney Island with a couple of my close friends to see the faded store signs and smell the hot dogs. The sun light was perfect and very different from that of my hometown in California. Here in New York, light tends to be more blue while on the west coast, natural light tends to be warmer, more yellow.
There was something very special about that day. The beach we sat on before walking through the crowded amusement park was almost a cathartic experience. It was a new sight and a unique breath of air.

Rumi, Bryan and I are BFFs!

Living in New York, one must take advantage of all the happenings around the city. With this in mind, I grabbed a couple of my friends, told them to dress to the nines, and then boarded the subway headed towards the Lincoln Center.

We went to see what New York Fashion Week was all about. We kept our expectations low because we had no way of getting into any of the shows, especially the one that was taking place when we arrived: Rebecca Minkoff.

Moseying around the plaza we spotted many fashionable size 2 females, and copious amounts of men dressed in velvet suits and patterned harem pants. What we didn't expect was that some photographers wanted pictures of US, silly students from NYU.

After the excitement of being photographed, we walked over to the main entrance of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Building, and out popped Rumi Neely and Bryan Boy heading to lunch after the Minkoff show!

I asked to take a picture with them, barely able to breathe, and ta da! Fashion Week magic was made when I posed with these two iconic fashion bloggers. I really do love NY!

New city, same dream.

I have taken quite some time off blogging, months at that. However, I feel like there is no better time than now to log and capture my daily adventures. I am using this post as a new start to a blog cataloging my life in New York City as a film student at New York University.

Check back for posts on fashion, film, food and culture. Also to read my attempts at witty writing!

Sweaters and Skinny's

For the past five months its been extremely unfortunate that I have been wearing almost the same exact few pieces every day.

While fingering through the garments in my overstuffed closet, I can not help but grab the same over-sized nude colored sweater, black skinny jeans, and dainty ballet flats! Not to mention I must have a wrist full of gold bracelets.

The answer is yes. I am obsessed with this combination of chic and comfortable. Don't judge!

SUMMER ENDS IN NYC AND WASHINGTON DC

The unfortunate thing is that I am six weeks into the school year and I still have the smell of summer adventure lingering in my recently ombred hair. There were so many great destinations that I went to that I only wish I could sit down with you and invite you to have a vituperative conversation with me.
I must say however, this trip was special because my family and I tried to resist going to touristy areas and instead living it like locals in the beautiful cities on New York and Washington D.C.
I hope every one had a summer to remember and is well equipped with thick, cable knit sweaters for the fast approaching fall season.

SUMMER STARTS WITH THE FAIR.

Crop top: The Closet
Purple lace bralet: RVCA
High waisted shorts: Urban Renewal
Bag: Thrifted
Mixed Jewelry

Summer is finally here! We can all put our crop tops and high waisted shorts to the true test. This summer I hope to live in lots of light, white clothing. I am also experimenting with parting my hair in the middle to get the total beach look. Lets hope summer doesn't fly by...
